The Netherlands win gold in Denmark

An exciting final at Musholm saw the Dutch players defeat Germany for the second time in the tournament. Denmark beat Italy to take bronze.

The Netherlands win gold in Denmark

In a gold medal match that was absolutely not for the faint of heart, the Netherlands successfully defended their longstanding title from the latest European Championship in 2016 and proved to the competition, that they are once again the team to beat in international Powerchair Hockey.

In Sunday’s final against Germany, the second bout at Musholm between the contenders, who also faced off on opening day, the Dutch players faced their toughest challenge yet. Germany actually took and early 2-0 lead, that was later converted to a 4-2 lead. At the break, however, the Netherlands had fought all the way back to take a 5-4 lead, and they never look back despite a strong German push in the final minutes.

The battle for bronze earlier Sunday was much less dramatic with Denmark clearly determined to end the tournament on a high note in front of their home fans. Leading 4-0 at the break, Denmark held on to a secure 6-3 win at the final whistle.
